bikes for sale!

Yes, winter's a good time to stay warm indoors and watch Arrested Development DVDs.  But spring will be here soon and then you'll want a bike to get around C-U.  Right now The Bike Project has a bunch of great bikes for sale... and they'll probably disappear pretty fast once the temperature rises.

If you're looking for a great bike, you should stop by the shop and check out our finished bikes.  We've got helmets, locks, and lights for sale, too -- so you can get everything you need to zip over to Jarling's Custard Cup this spring (starting March 5th!).

Here's a selection of bikes we've got for sale right now:

just a selection
Nassau 3-speed, with rear basket, $90

Specialized Hardrock, $200

AMF Nimble, $70

Murray Monterrey cruiser, $60 (and "sweet")

Trek mountain bike, $175

Schwinn Caliente, $70

Bridgestone Skyway, with front rack, $80

We've got more, too.  Come see them before they're sold to someone else!
And if you'd prefer to build your own, you can become a member, choose an unclaimed bike and build-a-bike:
we'll help you learn how

(We're still looking for a digital camera!  and a better photographer.  email us!)

Donation Request

Hey, do you have a digital camera that is collecting dust? Can we have it? We would like to have a shop camera to document all of our totally awesome events, volunteers, and bicycles, so that we can spice up this here blog with some photos! Use this as your excuse to give us your trusty old 5 megapixel canon workhorse and get something new, something flashy. Recycle. Reuse. Yeah!

Stop by or email us! Thanks!

upcoming events at the bike project!

The Bike Project Monthly General Meeting
Lots on the agenda & food will be provided.  It's a great chance to ask about volunteering and otherwise getting more involved. All are welcome! (Want to check out what's on the agenda? Review it here.)  Meeting's at 6pm on Tuesday, 23 February

Women and Trans in Transit Night
To better serve some underrepresented members, we're holding a monthly event specifically for them, but all are welcome to attend. This event occurs the first Tuesday of every month from 6-9 pm! Most volunteer staffers will be women and childcare will be provided if needed. The next Women and Trans in Transit night will be Tuesday, 2 March, from 6-9pm

Learn-A-Bike Classes
The first Learn-a-Bike class starts Friday, Feb. 26 at 6 pm for 1st-5th graders.  We don't need any more volunteers to help run the first class, but if you're interested in volunteering at future classes, email Emma Barnes (ebarnes0@gmail.com) or Tony Cherolis (acherolis@gmail.com) for more information. Or you can check out our website for updated information (will be updated soon). Volunteering is a great way to share your bicycle skills and even learn from other volunteers.

Bike Commuter Info Session
In preparation for Bike-to-Work Day (May 4th), The Bike Project is holding an info session to share all the useful information on bicycle commuting.  The info session will take place Tuesday, April 13 at 7 pm.

February is the toughest time

to remain resolutely steadfast in being a Biker. Slush. Still. Cold. And that spot between your eyebrows that the wind aims right for, drilling the ice pick into your brain....

The images on this blog help me along, though. Copenhagan. They are familiar with that cold-freeze headache, and yet they look so good, so relaxed and content.....
